What are cookies

Cookies are small text files that sites visited by users, send to their terminals, where they are stored and then retransmitted to the same sites on the next visit. The cookies of so-called "third parties" are, on the other hand, set by a website other than the one the user is visiting; this is because on each site there may be elements (images, maps, sounds, specific links to web pages of other domains, etc.) that reside on servers other than that of the site visited.

Cookies are used for different purposes: performing computer authentication, session monitoring, storing information on specific configurations concerning users accessing the server, storing preferences, etc.

There are different types of cookies:

  1. Session cookies expire at the end of the browser session and allow the user's actions during that specific session to be linked.
  2. Persistent cookies, on the other hand, remain stored on the user's device even after the end of the browser session and allow preferences or actions to be remembered across multiple sites.
  3. Proprietary cookies are set by the site you are visiting.
  4. Third-party cookies are set by a third-party site other than the site you are visiting.

Cookies can be deactivated or removed using the tools available in most browsers. Cookie preferences must be set separately for each browser used, as each browser offers specific functionality and options.

Difference of cookies by purpose

Technical cookies

These are cookies that serve to carry out navigation or to provide a service requested by the user. They are not used for any other purpose and are normally installed directly by the website owner. Without the use of such cookies, certain operations could not be carried out or would be more complex and/or less secure, such as online payment activities, for which cookies, which allow the user to be identified and maintained within the session, are indispensable.

Analytical cookies

The Garante (cf. provision of 8 May 2014) has specified that they can only be assimilated to technical cookies if they are used for site optimisation purposes directly by the site owner, who may collect information in aggregate form on the number of users and how they visit the site. Under these conditions, the same rules on information and consent apply to analytics cookies as to technical cookies.

Profiling cookies

These are cookies used to track the user's surfing on the web and create profiles of their tastes, habits, choices, etc. With these cookies, advertising messages in line with the preferences already expressed by the user when surfing online can be transmitted to the user's terminal.

HTGEARS.COM does not place third party content on its sites to include or use cookies or similar technologies for purposes of tracking or acquiring your personal information. If you believe that third party content may acquire personal data or use tracking technologies, please email us at info@htgears.com.
